Mohammad & Hassan Zein

Dear Dr. Osman,

This is a mail to thank you and Nurse Rebecca through your great Palliative Care NGO for the support and help that you provided us during the last three weeks of the life of our beloved wife and mother Gisèle Zein.

The cancer illness is a very difficult one for the patient but also for the entourage and family around, especially the last stages of this horrible illness. It was a time where we didn't know what to expect and how to behave, except by giving Gisèle all our love. She wanted and we wanted for her to have a dignified end at home without any artificial medical help that would have maybe made her suffer more. But at the same time we were afraid about having to run in and out of the hospital for every sign of suffering. So when we knew about Balsam, it was like a gift from God for us...

In memory of Nabil

Hello Dr. Osman. I hope you are fine. You are always on my mind. I cannot forget how helpful you were to us all. I'm sorry I did not get in touch with you before, but really I'm still trying to cope with my new life without Nabil, and it is very difficult to do so. I always think how hard it would have been for us without your help. I will never forget your kindness and support. Please give my regards to your team too. See you soon inshalla in good conditions.

Best wishes.

Aida.

In memory of our precious Hayat Al Samerrai

Sometimes it is hard to say the word memory , but it makes it easier when you remember the positive part of it, feeling that the person you lost is still around.

Hayat was one of a kind to my family, to everyone who knew her, and to me . She was not only my mom's best friend, but also everyone's mother, sister, friend and support.

She was a strong woman , yes she was.

Cancer was in her way but that did not stop her from being who she is everyday, smiling, joking, taking care of everyone and making sure that everyone around her is happy, even at her worse. The diagnosis was something she accepted, educated herself about through every detail, took every risk and every chance she had, to make it easier on her and the people she loved. She wanted to live. Life IS her name.

She called you her angels, Rebecca and Janane....

In memory of Hayat

Dear Balsam team,

Martin Luther King, Jr. once said;

“Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.... You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”

And that is what me, my family and our loving Hayat where embraced with. Love, grace and affection are just some of the things Balsam provided during a very distressing and difficult time. The amount of assistance and direction we received eased our journey with the diagnosis.

I remember distinctly the last 3 months of Hayat’s life and the difficulty it was for me to deal with her critical situation, she wanted to stay home on her bed and I would never think not to make her last wish...
